Client
The client is a US company that develops smart wearable solutions for biomechanics and movement support. It approached SoftTeco to create a smart exo boots application designed to assist users in everyday walking and weight-bearing activities.
Challenge
The client had no technological experience and didn’t deliver a physical device for integration. Instead, they provided us with only a chip as a starting point for creating a mobile application. The system’s logic should have been developed blindly, without testing on a real product, and as a standalone solution without a backend or web component.

Solution
Having big experience in healthcare software development, SoftTeco designed a cross-platform mobile application for smart exo boots that help wearers better manage and support weight-bearing activities. The system uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology to connect to sensors embedded in the boots and collect parameters such as weight, pressure distribution, and walking speed in real time and without delays. Through the app, users can power on/off the footwear, monitor battery level and estimated range, track step count and metrics.
The application follows an offline-first approach, meaning it operates fully autonomously and all data stored locally on the device to ensure reliability and data privacy. The system provides customizable assistance (augmentation) control. This feature allows users to adjust the level and mode of exo boot support directly via the mobile interface. Moreover, the solution has advanced analytics to monitor activity levels, track progress over time, and prevent overloading.
Tech stack

How it works
In close collaboration with the client’s team, SoftTeco created a cross-platform application available on Android and iOS from scratch to communicate with exo boots. First of all, we integrated Bluetooth with the chip and IoT sensors to enable reliable data exchange between the device and a mobile application. All collected data from sensors is transferred to the AWS Cloud for further analysis, storage, and processing.
To incorporate customizable assistance control, we created a system that maps user inputs from the mobile interface to real-time device parameters. These commands are securely transmitted via Bluetooth, where the user-selected assistance level and operating mode are applied.
Since the app required a clear, feature-rich interface, we used Flutter for the frontend. Our developers built a responsive and intuitive UI that delivers smooth performance and a consistent user experience. Special attention was given to connection stability and error handling. The application includes clear system states, such as pairing, calibration, and ready/not ready modes, as well as retry mechanisms for handling connection loss or calibration failures. These elements ensure the application’s reliability even during interruptions.

Results
SoftTeco successfully delivered a cross-platform application for the client’s existing exo smart boots from the ground up. During the IoT development, we implemented a complete BLE-based communication layer and built real-time data processing and analytics. Thus, the client was satisfied and took advantage of full real-time control of the exo boots by improving user comfort and mobility.
