Client

The client is a corporation that produces various types of glucometers for patients with Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes and related health conditions to support a life of wellness. More than 20 million people use their simple, accurate, and dependable products around the globe.

Challenge

The client already had two native mobile applications available on iOS and Android. The systems had been developed and iteratively extended by different teams, resulting in an inconsistent architecture and a fragmented codebase. Along with that, the apps had many bugs, performance bottlenecks and UX issues. The client approached SoftTeco to resolve the existing problems and provide continuous support for the existing solutions.

Solution

We supported an IoT application that helps individuals with diabetes and prediabetes conditions monitor and manage their glucose levels. It integrates with glucometer devices via Bluetooth and automatically synchronizes blood glucose readings to the system. Users can manually log key health data, including carbohydrate intake, insulin dosage, and physical activity, to create a complete view of their wellness. Visitors can enter data at the recommended time and frequency. Measurements from connected devices and manually entered data are consolidated and stored in the user’s personal digital logbook.

Once data is collected, the IoT-enabled application generates visual trends that show how glucose levels evolve over time and their correlation with lifestyle factors. Beyond this, the platform provides advanced analytics that help users understand patterns in their condition and identify potential risks or irregularities in their blood glucose levels.

The key feature of the platform is the automatic generation of standardized Ambulatory Glucose Profile (AGP) reports. These reports summarize glucose results over selected periods and present clinically relevant metrics in a format used by healthcare specialists. Users can securely share their data with doctors directly from the mobile app, while doctors can access and view it through a web-based portal. This allows doctors to analyze the patient’s condition and provide personalized treatment recommendations based on accurate patient data.

How it works

We provided multi-layer support for the two versions of the mobile application for diabetic and glucose monitoring. First, we improved the system’s performance and reliability. Our developers fixed bugs, worked with crash reports via Firebase Crashlytics to identify and resolve critical issues, and improved synchronization to ensure reliable data transfer.

We also optimized the app’s codebase to improve performance. On the iOS side, we switched to UI Scene to better manage multiple interfaces. On Android, we migrated to ViewBinding to replace manual view handling. Our developers improved logging across both platforms and established a regular update schedule for the MCK libraries. Later, our team worked on core functions of the app, especially the integration with a digital healthcare platform. We eliminated false errors for users, added region verification, and improved the UI by color-coding feature availability.

We implemented new features and extended analytical capabilities. Our specialists redesigned the app with a dark scheme and added an ambulatory glucose profile (AGP) reports. Inner specialists incorporated UX improvements, including password display/hiding, interface readability, and optimized user flows. Despite the lack of product metrics, SoftTeco’s team relied on user feedback (collected via hotline), technical diagnostics (crash logs and bug reports), and business initiatives from local and global development teams.
