About this position
We are looking for an experienced Cloud Native Developer (Contractor) to join a project focused on extending a Kubernetes-based developer platform using Golang. This role is ideal for developers passionate about self-service platforms, automation, and GitOps practices.
The position follows a hybrid work model (three days per week in the office) and is open to candidates based in and legally authorized to work in Budapest, Sofia, Tirana, Krakow, Warsaw, Wroclaw, or Lodz.
The project is an internal developer platform built on Kubernetes. It uses Golang to create custom tools and automation, including Operators and CI/CD pipelines, to simplify and secure the deployment and management of applications. It is designed for engineering and DevOps teams to increase development velocity and improve infrastructure reliability.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain backend services and infrastructure tools using Go (Golang);
- Extend Kubernetes functionality through Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs) and Operators;
- Debug and troubleshoot Kubernetes components, workloads, and distributed systems;
- Develop and maintain observability features (metrics, logs, health checks);
- Create and manage service monitors, metrics, and alerts using tools like Prometheus;
- Develop CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows (e.g., GitHub Actions);
- Support automation and configuration of services through infrastructure-as-code practices (e.g., Helm, Kustomize, or Terraform);
- Maintain technical documentation and participate in code reviews and design discussions.
Technical skills
- Proficiency in Golang (3+ years experience), including idiomatic Go, project structure, testing, and dependency management;
- Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes, including resource management, debugging, and using kubectl;
- Experience extending Kubernetes with Custom Resource Definitions (CRDs) and Operators;
Infrastructure & Cloud-Native: - Deep understanding of microservice design, distributed systems, and API-first development (REST, GraphQL);
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code tools: Helm, Kustomize, and Terraform;
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS, GCP).
Systems & Observability: - Experience in designing systems for scalability, fault tolerance, and maintainability.
- Skills in developing observability features such as etrics, logging, and health checks;
- Hands-on experience with monitoring tools like Prometheus and OpenSearch;
CI/CD & Automation: - Proficiency in developing CI/CD pipelines and GitOps workflows (e.g., GitHub Actions);
- Comfortable working with Linux environments, containers (Docker), and Git workflows.
Non-technical skills
- Strong English language skills, both written and verbal (minimum B2 level);
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to clearly justify architectural decisions;
- Experience in maintaining technical documentation;
- Active participation in code reviews and design discussions;
- Confidence in collaborative Git workflows and pull requests;
- Proven experience in a platform-oriented role, such as Software Engineer (Infrastructure), Platform Engineer, or a similar position.
Work schedule and format
- Full-time position;
- Hybrid work format — this role requires working from the office three days a week.
- We are considering candidates based in and legally authorized to work in Budapest, Sofia, Tirana, Krakow, Warsaw, Wroclaw, or Lodz.
Interview process
- Competency based interview with a Recruiter & Check English (30 min);
- Technical interview covering skills with SoftTeco’s expert (1 hour);
- Client-side interview in English;
- Final HR interview to discuss work conditions and salary.
