Challenge

The client based in the US approached SoftTeco with a request to assist in the development and maintenance of a complex web application aimed at automating and facilitating the work of emergency and urban services.

Since the application includes multiple user types and two different dashboards for different users, the client needed assistance from experienced developers to fine-tune the product and add new functionality.

Solution

Right after launch, the product catered for maintenance services only (i.e. road construction works notification). After successful implementation of the product with several urban services, the client expanded the functionality and made the product applicable for emergency services as well, including 911, police and fire departments.

The app enables emergency and maintenance urban services to timely react to incidents
and provides a clear view of both open and resolved incidents in the area. The integration with public cameras and maps enables 24/7 real-time monitoring of the events that happen in the area.

How it works

The application is adapted to different devices and can be used both on the PC and the tablet. There are two different interfaces available: for operators and service representatives. The operators can enter the incident in the system and it becomes available for resolution. Service representatives, in turn, can see all the open incidents and start their resolution. Once the person starts the incident resolution, he can change the report status in the system and enter all the activities and additional information. In this way, the users can always have access to all the input reports and see the responsible person and the actions that were taken.

The application uses the Data Science technology to forecast possible future incidents based on historical data. This allows services to prevent certain incidents and enhance monitoring in the areas of high risk.

Results

The SoftTeco team contributed to expanding the product’s functionality and now Waycare is a full-fledged web application that caters to multiple urban services. Currently, the team is involved in developing additional features like in-app notifications on the incidents, more accurate Data Science forecasts, performance in the offline mode.

At the moment, the application is used in the USA only but the client is planning to introduce it to other countries as well and that would require additional support and maintenance from our side.
