Challenge
The client – Health Rhythms, a US-based digital health company, approached SoftTeco with the idea of developing a platform to help users monitor their emotional state and build healthy habits. Since the healthcare domain is highly regulated, one of the key challenges was to create an application fully compliant with HIPAA requirements.
Moreover, the functionality envisioned by the client required integration with numerous third-party APIs, which posed potential risks to the platform’s performance and compliance with security standards.
Solution
SoftTeco developed the solution from scratch, delivering two interconnected products: a cross-platform mobile app for users and a web portal for healthcare professionals. The mobile app enables users to complete psychological self-assessment questionnaires, monitor their mental and physical well-being, receive 24/7 support from licensed professionals, and build sustainable habits.The specialist portal enables care coaches to monitor patient activity, analyze test results, and provide tailored support. Communication is facilitated through CometChat, ensuring real-time engagement in a secure environment.
To meet strict healthcare data regulations and ensure data protection, the infrastructure leverages AWS services within a secure and isolated architecture. We also employed industry-standard encryption practices and implemented all necessary HIPAA safeguards across infrastructure, storage, and communication layers.
In addition to full-cycle software development, SoftTeco was responsible for preparing and reviewing test documentation, including test cases for both verification and validation. The team used Swagger and Postman to test APIs, verified data integrity directly in the AWS-hosted database, and monitored application logs via Datadog to ensure stability and transparency across environments.

How it works
Health Rhythms offers continuous mental health support for individuals dealing with anxiety, depression, and other emotional challenges. Built with NestJS, the backend uses PostgreSQL for structured data, Redis for caching and sessions, and BullMQ for background task processing. Mobile and web apps connect via secure APIs managed through AWS API Gateway, while infrastructure is provisioned with Terraform using an Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) approach. The platform operates within AWS Cloud across multiple environments.
The user-facing mobile app gathers data through clinical tests, sensors, and passive tracking, which mental health specialists use to assess well-being and deliver personalized support. To provide real-time health metrics, the app integrates with Apple Health and Android Health Connect, ensuring user privacy and HIPAA compliance.
The coach-facing web portal serves as a central hub for interpreting assessments and interacting with users. Integrations with Braze and Amplitude enable behavioral tracking and personalized communication. All data is encrypted and managed within a secure, HIPAA-compliant AWS environment.
Results
SoftTeco successfully launched version 1.0 of Health Rhythms and shortly after prepared an updated version 2.0, introducing additional features and enhancements. Despite initial technical challenges, the platform was launched on schedule and fully aligned with the client’s original concept and requirements. Moreover, version 1.0 exceeded the planned KPI for app downloads by more than twofold. The client was satisfied with the collaboration and praised the professionalism and performance of the SoftTeco team.
